Fireplace or No Fireplace? Pros and Cons

One of the biggest decisions when planning a media wall is this: do you include a fireplace or not? Some people love the look and feel of a fire under the TV. Others prefer a cleaner, more minimal setup. So what’s right for you? Let’s weigh it up — the real pros and cons of each option.

The Case for a Fireplace

✅ Pros

  • Looks premium: That modern fireplace-glow instantly adds a luxury feel
  • Cosy evenings: Especially in winter — even the flame effect alone changes the vibe
  • Focal point: Creates a natural centrepiece for your room
  • Optional heat: Most electric fires let you run the flame without heat — perfect all year round

❌ Cons

  • Extra cost: Adds to the budget — especially for wide, built-in units
  • Space needed: Not ideal in very small rooms unless carefully planned
  • Ventilation: You’ll need proper cable management and airflow around the unit

The Case for No Fireplace

✅ Pros

  • Clean, modern look: Great if you love a minimalist setup
  • More space: No fire = more freedom with shelf layout or lower cabinets
  • Lower cost: Cheaper overall and quicker to build
  • No heat: Ideal for rooms that already stay warm or where heat isn’t needed

❌ Cons

  • Less cosy: You miss out on that soft glow in the evenings
  • No secondary heat source: Some customers like the backup of a plug-in fire in winter

Room Size Matters

In small to medium rooms, a fireplace can work — but it has to be the right scale. We’ve fitted ultra-slimline fires into tight spaces with zero fuss. In larger rooms, a fire often helps fill the wall and balance out a bigger TV.

Design Tip

If you’re unsure, we can design your wall so a fireplace can be added later. That way, you’re not locked in but still have the option.

Popular Fire Styles We Fit

  • Wide landscape electric: Clean and modern, from 750mm to 1800mm
  • 3-sided fires: For a more open, premium feel
  • LED flame options: Colour-changing with remote or smart control

Still Deciding?

We’ve built both — media walls with fires, and without. Some of our nicest builds have skipped the fire completely and focused on storage or lighting instead. We’ll talk you through the options and help you choose what works for your room, not just what’s trendy.
